Donegal Texel Sheep Breeders will hold a sale of In Lamb Texel ewes and gimmers at Raphoe Mart on Friday the 23rd of November at 6.30pm. The sale will give new and existing breeders the opportunity to purchase quality stock from the Knock Texel’s which is selling the entire adult portion of the flock. This will be the largest Texel In Lamb in Ireland in 2012 comprising of 107 lots.
The Knock flock was established in 1990 with the initial purchase of 5 females from the renowned Glebe flock. The flock has since become established as one of the leading flocks in Donegal and over the past 22 years the flock has amassed numerous Championships. Having prize winners at both Local and National level culminating in Knock Jolie (IKI03030) winning the Hogget Ewe class at the All-Ireland Championships in 2004. Unbeaten every time she was shown she had 5 Championships to her name.
Rams from the flock have also made an impact with Knock Muscleman first prize Shearling Ram at the Premier Sale 2007 and later sold for the record price paid for a Texel Shearling Ram in Ireland €5,200gns.
The Sale includes 24 Aged Ewes and 23 Hogget Ewes, 18 of the ewes selling will be in lamb to the much admired Milestonehill Toploader jointly purchased for £3,100gns at the NI Premier Sale. Other sires include Fairywater Tribute, Champion NI Premier Sale, Kildowney Pulse (1st Prize Aged Ram Donegal Texel Championships, Inishowen & Clonmany Shows 2011) & Speenogue Ronaldo (maternal brother to Pierre, All-Ireland Champion 2012).
Sale highlights include IKI08073 - 1st prize Aged Ewe Clonmany Show 2011, IKI10038 – full sister to Champion Shearling Ram Raphoe 3rd Sale.
There will also be 60 In Lamb gimmers from Clara, Figart, Habistown, Hillcrest, Hillsborough, Moneyhill, Muckish, Speenogue, Shannagh and Tullyhill Texel flocks. Ewes will be scanned In lamb to top quality sires which will include Garngour Nobleman, Deveronvale Oddie, Muckish Tonto, Kiltariff Santos, Enniscrone Sensational, Glenside Tomboy, Mossknowe Pudsey, Douganhill McFly, Hillcrest Thompson, Hillcrest Picasso and Curley Theo.
judging has been left in the capable hands of Neville Myles, Ballyshannon the show begins at 5pm. All ewes will be scanned on the sale day. This sale will give purchasers the chance to buy into some of the best bloodlines in the breed served to proven sires.

The Champion ewe made the top price at the recent Osmonds sponsored show and sale of In Lamb Texel Ewes by Donegal Texel Sheep Breeders at Raphoe Mart. Sired by Tullyhubbert Lancelot out of a Forkins Napolean dam this Hillcrest ewe brought out by William Doherty sold served to Hillcrest Picasso purchased by Shaun Boyce, Milford for €1050.

Next best was €1000 for a Muckish ewe sired by Kerryhill Playboy and the dam being a Whitehill ewe by Billary Hill Nutcracker. She sold served to Muckish Tonto purchased by Noel Jennings, Hollymount, Co. Mayo

The Reserve Champion from the Figart pen of Shane Mc Hugh was by Clinterty Las Vegas served to Speenogue Pierre and purchased by Jonathan Higgins, Skreen, Co. Sligo for €950.

The Speenogue flock of Mc Hugh Brothers then sold a Muckish Ring Master daughter the dam by Chessy Likely Lad served to Enniscrone Sensational for €800 purchasers were P&R Cahill, Castlerea, Co. Roscommon.

Matching this price was the best from the Shannagh flock of A&R Wilson sired by Tophill Knockout out of a Tullagh ewe by Annan Jewel served to Douganhill McFly sold to Johnathan Higgins.
