REPORT

Friday night’s sale of the entire adult portion of the Knock flock of Pedigree Texels for Messrs McKeague Bros. plus guest consignments from the Larahirl, Culdaff & Muckish flocks at Raphoe Livestock Mart, Donegal saw a top price of €1240 paid for a 3 year old ewe from the Knock flock. This was IKI09009 a daughter of the €2,500gns Larahirl Newsflash and out of a dam by Mullaghrafferty Lethal Weapon. She sold in lamb to the much admired Milestonehill Toploader a £3,100gns joint purchase by the Knock, Larahirl & Clara flocks at Ballymena this year. This strong stylish ewe finds a new home in the Muckish Flock of John McGee.
Following her at €880 was IKI09047, the catalogue’s cover girl, again from the Knock flock. This ewe, by the £1,000gns Kiltariff Oakes and out of a dam by the €1,500gns Larahirl Hamed, sold carrying triplets to Milestonehill Toploader. She was purchased by new breeder Andrew Griffith, Ballybofey, Co. Donegal.
And making €755 was IKI09021 another from the Knock flock reduction, again by Kiltariff Oakes and out of a Mullaghrafferty Lethal Weapon dam. She had bred the top lamb in the Knock flock for the past two years. Also in lamb to Toploader, she joins the Urris flock of Roger Doherty, Clonmany, Co. Donegal.
Then came three ewes at €735. The first to sell for this figure was IKI08076 another daughter of Larahirl Newsflash and out of a dam by Springhill Falcon. This ewe had been 1st prize aged ewe at Clonmany Show in 2011. She sold in-lamb to Milestonehill Toploader and makes her way to Co. Louth to her new home in the Ravensdale flock of John Wehrly. At the same price was IKI09050 a daughter of Kiltariff Oakes out of a Larahirl Hamed dam. She sold in-lamb to Toploader and joins the Roughan flock of John Stewart, Ramelton, Co. Donegal. The final ewe to sell at this price was a gimmer from the Larahirl flock’s consignment. GEI11005, a Teiglum Magnum daughter out of a dam by Baltier King, again in lamb to Milestonehill Toploader, she joins the Forge flock of Brian & Dermot O’Dowd, Boyle, Co. Roscommon.
Breaking the €700 mark were two further ewes, both selling at €715. The first to realise this price was IKI10007 a daughter of the £1,000gns Turoe Pilot and out of a dam by the €1200gns Silverhill King. She sold in lamb to this years’ NI Premier Sale Champion, the £1,000gns Fairywater Tribute. She moves to Martin Alexander’s Purton Park flock, Killygordon, Co. Donegal. The second at this price was a gimmer from the Larahirl Flock. This was GEI11022, a Tophill Nockout daughter out of a dam by Haltcliffe Officer. In lamb to Milestonehill Toploader, she was snapped up by Michael Ward, Figart, Dunfanaghy for his Murroe flock.
A 100% clearance saw 24 aged ewes produce an average of €547.75 with 27 gimmers averaging €416.68
