Carrick Christmas Belles ring out loud!

Large crowds flocked to Carrick-on-Shannon on Monday the 28th of December for the first ever sheep sale at the bull showgrounds. The vendors were Ronan Gallagher, Enniscrone Texels Co Sligo and Jimmy Garrivan, Clew Bay Texels, Westport. History was made when the first ewe through the ring. A loud applause rang out and it was onwards and upwards from there!

Topping the sale at €1,780 for Ronan Gallagher was a Milnbank Special 1 sired ewe out of the noted Enniscrone Pippa (2011 Tullamore Show and RDS Champion). After a flurry of bidding, she was knocked down to Jonathan Higgins, Skreen Co Sligo, to join his Avondale flock.

Next best at €1,720 was another ET Pippa/Special 1 daughter scanned to Shannagh Won-O-Won. She sold to Michael Dwyer, Co Roscommon.

Following on from that at €1,350 was a stylish Milnbank Valdaron ewe lamb. This ewe lamb was kindly donated by Ronan Gallagher to the North West Hospice. The purchaser was Kieran McBarron Co. Armagh. In total €1,650 was raised for this worthy charity.

Directly after that her dam sold for €1,320. She is a Milnbank Special 1 daughter and maternal sister to Enniscrone Sensational and was scanned to Shannagh Won-O-Won.

Then came a €1,050 call for a daughter of Speenogue Trojan and in lamb to Enniscrone Uncle Seán. She sold to Kate Purcell, Thomastown Co. Kilkenny.

Michael Dwyer then secures his second purchase of the day paying €1,000 for a Strathbogie Terminator daughter scanned with a single to Shannagh Won-O-Won.

New breeder Kate Purcell then paid €950 for a super Knock Powerpacker out of a noted Baltier Nailer ewe. She sold carrying to Enniscrone Uncle Seán.

Next best at €900 was for a very powerful Enniscrone Playboy daughter carrying to Shannagh Won-O-Won. She was the pick of John Wehrly Co. Louth.

Justin McDermott Co. Cavan secured a Strathbogie Terminator daughter for €860. She was sold in lamb to Shannagh Won-O-Won.

Two then traded at €800. The first selling to Jack Swift, Williamstown Co. Galway for a Tamnamoney Preacher daughter and the second selling to Adam Heffernan, Killarney Co Kerry for an Enniscrone Playboy sired ewe.

Jimmy Garrivan, Clew Bay Texels also had a great day’s trading. His top price at €750 was for Chessy Smirnoff ewe carrying to Milnbank Valdaron. She sold to Enda Quirke, Hill of Down Co. Meath.

There was a 100% clearance for 58 lots.
