Judge Jimmy Reilly presenting 1st prize in the Texel X lowland ewe hogget class to Jimmy Kelly Roundfort.

 It was the biggest Texel X sale to date at Ballinrobe with approx 800 sheep on offer.The sale had an outstanding display of Texel X ewe hoggets and ewe lambs with hogget prices ranging from E130 to E194 and ewe lambs from E80 to 112. Buyers who traveled from the four provinces were not disappointed such was the choice and quality on offer and the most common comment of the day was "some display of quality sheep". We are delighted to launch the 2010 all Growvite Ireland championships that will be held on the 26th June in conjunction with Sheep 2010 Lyons Estate, Newcastle, Co. Dublin.

 
There will be 170 pedigree TEXELS on show which will be the largest breed on display at Sheep 2010.
 
The judge on the day will be Mr Leslie Beacom, County Down of the renowned
CASTLEKNOWE flock, which is home to Northern Irelands record price ram lamb (£30 000).
 
This will be the perfect opportunity to see the true benefits a Texel ram could bring to your flock.

Lambplus

1. What is Lambplus®?

LambPlus® is the Sheep Breeding information service arm of ‘Sheep Ireland’. For pedigree sheep breeders LambPlus® has replaced the Department of Agriculture run PSBIP scheme. LambPlus® will record relevant on farm data submitted by the farmers, and flock owners will then get genetic evaluations and flock reports that will allow them to compare their flock’s performance with other LambPlus® users.

Minister Brendan Smith pops the cork to officially launch the new website

Minister Brendan Smith took time out from his busy schedule to launch the Irish Texels new website and re-branding at the National Ploughing Championships this week at Athy.

 

The new Irish Texel Society website is now live and as you can see it is quite a transformation from our previous site! More and more farmers are doing business online - from keeping up to date with news and regulations, to sourcing breed information and connecting with other farmers - so we felt it was time to refresh our online image. 1. How has ICBF become involved in Sheep Breeding?

“Sheep Ireland” is the trading name of Sheep Database Ltd. In 2008, “Sheep Ireland” was formed after a period of extensive consultation with the sheep industry. The key events in the history of how ICBF has become involved in sheep breeding are briefly as follows: June 2006: The ‘Sheep Industry Development Strategy’ report was completed, under the chairmanship of John Malone.
